How To Read A Book
Reading a book can be difficult during the first time. Choosing a good book will perhaps arise as the first question among others. While you are at it, you notice you either become unattached to the book or you become engrossed to it. Both extremes are not good because reading a book that won't interest you no matter how beautiful the highlights are emphasized will not let you be able to recognize and appreciate it perhaps. While being too engrossed in a book may allow you to skim and by not fully reading it would not result to understanding, relating, interacting and appreciating it. There are many ways and approaches to reading a book and your own way may work well for you but here are a few tips on how to read a book and get the value for doing so.
The habit of reading is not about how many books you have read and neither is it about how fast you can finish a book. The slower you read a book, the better are the fruits of understanding and application of principles to one's daily struggles. When reading too fast, you missed a number of significant statements that the author is trying to communicate to the reader. It will rob you the opportunity of mirroring the events of the book to your life and in a way come up with a measure of how right you can make things in the first place. There is a certain pace that you need to adapt when reading a new book of a new found interest, not too slow and not too fast. Pausing in between chapters to review the important lines will help in understanding the sequence of events and as well the main important points that the author wants to express.
There may be a few authors you may have known of asking you to get the value of their book by interacting with it. They meant that you write on the book. If it is not yours, grab a small notebook and scribble lines and phrases that made the most impact. There is none that is not present in the book. Somewhere along the reading, a line or two will struck you in silence making that head of yours nod up and down or raise your eye brows to widen your eyes in both astonishment and agreement. That is because books are carefully researched and a good author has his own way of delivering the message to you in a way that is most unique to you and everyone else. That is a little irony there.
It is absolutely true. There is no need for expensive gadgets to use to read a book. Someone who has defective eye sight may need a pair of glasses, proper lighting should be observed as well but among others, the idea of how simple it is merely requires a mind that is open to new ideas and new thoughts and a heart which is accepting and willing to buy and use time. That is why, most importantly, reading is for the willing.
