Four Ways To Find What To Write About
Writing isn't always easy. It's tough enough finding something to write about and this is especially true for magazines. In magazine writing, you always have to be writing about something recent, relevant and entertaining. This can be very tricky and leaves some writers always on their toes, looking for the next big scoop. It's almost like writing for a newspaper, only not as hectic and demanding. But even with that in mind, it is still important that you be able to pick the right topics for the magazine that you write for. Here are a few ways to condition yourself to doing just that.
• Relax – The most important thing to do is to not stress out on your assignment. If you are writing for a magazine and you have a deadline to meet, make sure that you are relaxed and comfortable as possible. Your brain needs to do all the work when it comes to writing articles. The last thing you need is the feeling of burning out or experiencing writer's block. Sit back and have a cup of coffee as you ponder about your assignment. You can also read a few other magazines or surf the internet to check out stuff that is related to the topic you are about to write.
• Don't think – Now, this doesn't mean that you should completely shut down on the work that is required of you. What you need is to kind of be indifferent to your topic so that you can look at it from a different point of view. You don't want to over think the subject that you want to write about. As much as possible, look into the various things that relate to the article that you want to write. From there, you can actually come up with a dozen other articles to write about as well. Now it's better to pick one thing to write about from a whole list of ideas than to burn yourself out just thinking of how you can write about one.
• Make notes – It's important that you make a note of your ideas, whether they are big or small. Have you come across a certain topic that you feel is relevant to your readers? Then make a note of that topic so that you can infuse it into your article later one. It is important that you make a note of all the things that are related to the subject of your article. This is what should feed the content of your article.
• Take a break – It's funny what you may be able to think of even when you are taking a break. And that's important; take a break. Get some air or go to the toilet. Some of the best ideas are actually brainstormed in the toilet or on the balcony. Make sure that you get some fresh air away from your laptop, computer or typewriter so that you can refresh your brain and fill it with even more ideas. This should help you look at what you are writing with a fresh thought each and every time you make revisions to your magazine article.
