Do you see magazines as something more than a reading material? Do you treasure each issue you have? Do you find yourself surfing the net for hours looking for one of a kind magazines? Do you feel sad whenever you lose one of your beloved magazines? Do you collect magazines? Well if yes, then you are indeed a collector.
We all know how collectors cherish their prized possession. They even feel sad whenever they lose one item or in cases in which an item is destroyed. If you thought that magazines are not good collectibles, then you are wrong. In fact all magazines are worth collecting since after an issue is published it might not get published again. We all know how magazine publishers think and look for new topics for their magazines.
There are some published issues of some magazines that are considered priceless and for magazine collectors owning one is something to be proud of. When you collect magazines, it is only natural for you to want to keep it in tip top shape. We all know how paper gets damaged by a lot of elements like water, heat, fire and even time. Since magazines are inanimate objects, it is up to the owner to keep it intact. Here are some easy steps that can help you preserve your magazine collection.
1. Wash your hands. It is important that your hands are clean whenever you handle any magazine. We all know that our hands can have oil and other dirt materials on it that when transferred can surely damage your magazine's overall look. You should wash your hand especially if you just finished eating something oily and greasy. Grease stains on magazine paper are not a sight to behold.
2. Dry. Of course, after you wash your hands make sure that you dry it. You must be aware of how much damage your wet hand can create on a magazine or one of its pages.
3. Plastic. If possible cover your magazine covers with plastic. Plastic can help protect your magazine from water, moist and some dirt.
4. Rack or bookshelf. If you have a collection, it would be best if you display it. There is no use of collecting magazines only to keep them inside a box and under your bed. If you intend to display it, make sure you have a rack or a bookshelf. Also, take into consideration its stability. Do not buy racks or bookshelves that are wobbly or not balanced because if you do there is a great chance that you will find your magazines on the floor. A wall mounted bookshelf is a good idea because aside from the fact that it is more stable, it can also be a good accent to your library or your living room.
5. Arrange. If you want to save yourself and others from taking and replacing the magazines on the bookshelf while looking for a particular issue, it would be great if you arrange it. You can actually arrange it in many ways like you can arrange it according to the year, the month or the title. By arranging it, it would be easier for you and others to locate a particular issue saving time and energy as well as sparing your magazines from potential damage.
Protect your collection. If you want to have it for a long time until it is considered vintage, then keep it safe and protected at all times.
