Three Magazine Classifications
Magazines also have different types. Each type of magazine focuses on a particular topic or a particular aspect on one's life. Some magazines feature medical advances and research while others feature articles about parenting and health. There are also magazines that talk about celebrities while some feature people who made a difference in society.
The topics in a magazine are varied and this is probably the reason why it is more interesting than books and the daily paper. The types of magazines can be classified into three categories which are briefly discussed below.
1. Scholarly magazines. From the classification itself, it is already easy to tell that the contents of magazines belonging to this category are mostly about academics. Some of these magazines can talk about the recent technological advances; a topic helpful for students studying robotics, automotive, physics and many more. These magazines usually contain graphs, charts, statistics; in other words it usually involves numbers.
These magazines are good resources especially when you are doing some research paper, your thesis or as a report. The tone of this magazine is rather serious; therefore, some may find it more like a book rather than a magazine. Medical magazines published by a group of health care professionals also belong to this classification. This magazine provides in-depth information on a wide variety of subjects concerning medical discoveries.
2. General Interest Magazines. This is magazine is the fun magazine. Magazines that belong to this category are usually fun to read because it is less serious but equally informative. This type of magazine aims at reaching a wider and more varied set of audiences. If you read about the topics on general interest magazines usually these talk about almost everything.
Examples of these magazines are parenting magazines, home and living magazines, food magazines and many more. Even teen magazines fall under this category. These magazines can contain short stories, advice columns and center pages. It is fun to read general interest magazines because the topics are easy to understand unlike those that belong to the academic magazine category. So if you simply want to kill time, you can always grab a copy of any magazine belonging to this category and you can kiss boredom away.
3. Tabloids. These magazines are a little bit bigger than your usual magazines and they usually contain earth shocking headlines. The life of these magazines thrives on sensational stories; the kind of stories that can leave someone dumbfounded. The usual contents of these magazines are Hollywood gossips as well as Hollywood stories. We all know how people are so interested about a particular Hollywood actress' or a particular Hollywood actor's life. It attracts attention through its flashy headlines.
The three classifications mentioned above are the basic classification of magazines. Some stores arrange their magazines according to classification so by being aware of the different magazine groups, it would be easier for you to locate your favourite magazine the next time you intend to buy one.
