Five Steps In Reading

Reading is not only reserved to books but to other reading materials as well like magazines and newspapers. Reading materials are important because aside from the fact that they are varied they also contain a lot of information that are useful in our day to day activities. Reading is simple but it doesn't mean you shouldn't understand it. Reading and understanding should go hand in hand so in order for you to get the best out of reading here are some simple steps.

1. Hunt your reading materials. You cannot read without a reading material of course that is why this is the first step. Look for reading materials that interest you if you pick the book for instance choose one that you are interested in be it a novel, a compilation of short stories, a book on poetry or be it academic books. It doesn't matter what you choose. As long as you are interested in reading it, then that is a good thing.

The same goes for the magazine. If you are into gadgets, then you might be interested in reading those technological magazines. If you are into interior designing, then you might be interested in those architectural or interior designing magazines. Usually the topic you choose would depend on your hobbies or interests. The newspaper gives you more choices because you can pick the articles you want to read.

2. Acquire it. After you have made your choice, it is time to get it. If the book you wanted to read is in the library, then rent it. If it is sold at a particular bookshop, then buy it. The same thing goes for the magazine although most magazines are sold at bookstores and newsstands. The newspaper is usually delivered at your doorstep so all you have to do is get it. But in case you don't get any paper delivered, then you can always buy at any newsstand.

3. Find your favourite spot. You read best when you are in your comfort zone. So after you have acquired your reading material it is time for you to settle in your favourite spot. This spot can be under a tree at the park, on the hammock at your garden, on the couch or even in your bedroom. While at your spot, you can also bring along some snacks or refreshments that you can munch and drink on while reading. Your spot should be somewhere where there is no distraction like the television, computers or radio.

4. Open your mind. Before you start reading make sure that your mind is free from presumptions. You should have an open mind so that you will be more receptive to the things you are about to read. This is especially important when you are reading a novel. Reading a novel needs a very active imagination so you must have an open mind when you do this. Having an open mind will also help you concentrate on what you are reading.

5. Enjoy. Once you have started reading there is only one thing left for you to do and that is to enjoy it.

Those are simply the steps you can follow when you decide to read something. Follow them and you are on your way to finding the joys of reading.
